  1. An abortion is the expoltion of an embryo
  2. or fetus before it is viable outside the 
  3. uterus, this is the 28th week after 
  4. conception in humans. Spontanious abortion
  5. or miscarriage, may be caused by the death
  6. of the fetus due to a abnormality, desease
  7. or trauma to the expectant mother. 
  8. Abortion has been practiced for many years
  9. as a form of BIRTH_CONTROL. In the 19th
  10. century the Roman Cathlic Church and changing
  11. opinion led to strict anti-abortion laws.
  12. In most European countries abortion is now
  13. legal within the first 12 weeks, although it
  14. is not uncommon for doctors to perform an
  15. abortion on a fetus of upto 6 months old in
  16. some countries.
